Happy Father's Day & 4-Month Photo Bonanza!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

Today is our first!  Unfortunately, Miss Saffron has seen to it to never sleep; so I will be spending it in a dark room, sleeping.

Bananas for bananas!
Crazy for carrots!

At four months old, she's been eating some solid foods (bananas & carrots so far), moved to size 2 diapers, started vocalizing & laughing, and just beginning to roll over.

It seems though that she's not going to be sleeping the night through on any regular basis any time soon.  Every tip someone gives us fails miserably.  And the Swaddle-wraps (my former favorite thing) is now something I look at with disdain.  She won't sleep without it, but she doesn't fit in the small size anymore and the medium/large is too loose.  She can escape it within minutes!

Air Guitar!
Saffron is very long/tall baby for her age (in the 95th percentile!), so some of her clothes (pants & pajamas) don't fit very well and she spends most of her time in dresses and onsies.  And shoes? Fugetaboutit!  Tallness = big feet.  But what really makes me feel bad is when I put her in her swing, her long legs dangle over the edge.  Overall, she's very happy and healthy.  But when homegirl screams, she SCREAMS!!!

One Long Week (& Pet-ty Jealousy)

Saffron & Zoe, post-nap.
Funny, but not his best.

John had to go out of town this week, so it was Saffy and I alone for the first time.  To be honest, I was scared.  Scared of what?  No help?  Exhausting myself?  I know plenty of people with two babies that seem to have boundless energy.  But until Saffy can sleep through the night, this daddy is always tired.  People keep telling me "sleep when she sleeps", but that's much easier said than done.  She may take a 1 to 5 hour naps, but the moment I shut my eyes, hers inevitably open (it must be that close, psychic bond we share - guess the reference).

Still listening...
We spent the week watching movies, listening to audiobooks, and playing with toys.  We both had colds and stayed in our PJ's all day long.  We never even left the house.

Meanwhile, the cats have become increasingly jealous of the baby.  One has resorted to urinating in Saffy's pack 'n' play in the living room, and the others refuse to move out of your place on the couch where you intend to feed the baby.  After the last incident of "let's pee all over Saffy's stuff", I became enraged and banned them from the living room.  I had to put up two baby gates, one on top of the other, in two doorways to keep them out.  It's not pretty or convenient, but hey, it works.  Now the three cats just stare at us through the French doors of the living room.  And they are pissed.

Things Saffy is doing:
  • Slowly moving around in her walker.
  • She knows that both iPhones (black and white) are cameras & stops doing whatever you want to capture.
  • Cooing and babbling (unless a camera is around).
  • Laughing and starting to become ticklish.
  • I know you're taking my picture!
  • And what can only be described as a "hunger-tantrum".  This is the stiffening of the body and/or arching of the back, arms flailing, and screaming and crying (sometimes with real tears!) when she's hungry or, more often, when she needs a burping midway through a bottle.
Just before nap-time.

Adopted!

We finalized my adoption of Saffron this morning - hooray!!

I don't believe that straight couples have to do this - and technically we didn't since we're married in Massachusetts and the state considers me the second parent automatically.  But since I'm not on the birth certificate, and our marriage isn't universally recognized, there's always the risk that if something should happen......  So this is a good safeguard just in case, especially should we (perish the thought) leave the state, and it also gives her a Massachusetts birth certificate with both our names on it, which I'm sure will be handy.

Honestly, the state made it incredibly easy - I didn't use a lawyer, just went to the courthouse and the adoption clerk showed me forms I need to fill out and walked me through everything.  They waived the home study and such, and it took just three weeks from when I submitted the paperwork to when it was finalized before the judge today.  And all it cost us was parking!  I'm astounded that the state can actually function that quickly and smoothly!!!  :-)

Boppy Pillow (perfect for feeding, tummy time, sitting up)

Gro-Egg

Tommee Tippee Anti-colic Bottles
(don't know if they work, but no colic so far)

SwaddleMe Blanket
