"Two" - Part II

And two months to the day of the last post, two babies decided to arrive about two months early!  Introducing Saffy's little sister and brother:

Marlowe & Desmond
Desi
Marley
Both are doing well, but will spend the next few weeks in NICU gaining weight.
We can't wait to meet our wonderful surrogate and see Dr. Shivani again!

"2"

Yup, we're still here.  Just lazy & busy.

Someone’s TWO! — We can’t believe it’s been two years (and almost two months) since our baby came into this world.  She has changed our lives in countless ways and made us better people.  It’s hard to put into words how much a person can love their child.  And come on, she’s such a cool little girl!
She's in the naked phase, the tantrum phase, the not-wanting-to-wear-a-diaper phase, and also a more independent phase.  This spring she'll be getting a brand new, pink, big-girl room.  But we're not getting rid of her hand-painted nursery just yet...

There's something more too! — We're expecting again early this summer!
TIMES TWO!!!

P.S.  Blogger sucks!  This post took me over an hour just to make it look like this!

19 Months

We're finally at the end of a hot, humid summer here in New England.  It didn't seem to be as bad as last year, but I have to say, I'll take heat over humidity any day.

Saffron's FINALLY beginning to say words (other than repeating a few choice curse words—don't worry mom, none of them start with "C")!  She calls us both "dah-ee".  Says "yum-yum" when she's hungry or play-eating; "hi", "bye", "baby" and finally "nigh-nigh" when being whisked off to bedtime.

In the last few days someone has learned to climb into and out of her highchair on her own.  Saffy's very good at organizing:  putting like items, such as similar stuffed animals, baby dolls, books, and other toys together in groups all without being taught.  Must be instinct.  Too bad she can't put toys away yet.

Children's Television:
She also has an obsession with "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" a public television cartoon based on "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood".  This has spiraled out of control, as it's the only thing that captures her attention when daddy does chores, needs a break, or needs his little girl to calm down.  We don't have cable, but it's on Netflix, so when one episode ends, another begins immediately.  It has literally taken over all of our lives.  Pandora's box has been opened.

In our evenings, John and I critique the show (perhaps I go to further extremes) as if we were the intended demographic.  When you see an episode more than a few times, you begin to ponder the show's deeper problems like why some cartoon animals are regarded as equals to humans, but other animals are just animals or pets.  What is this strange animal hierarchy?  Of course, I am grateful she doesn't like "Dora the Explorer", the big-headed girl who lives in a bad neighborhood full of thieves, talking backpacks, and eerie glassy-eyed stares at the audience that linger just long enough to make you uncomfortable and look behind you.

I've tried to get her to like other shows like "Peppa Pig", "Noddy in Toyland", and "The Wot-Wots".  But the only thing gained from those shows is bastardized cartoonish, faux-British accent by yours truly whilst speaking to our daughter.

Well, that's all for now.

Six Months Later...

Six Months Later...

I really didn't expect to take such a long hiatus (or any hiatus for that matter).  I expected to at least do an update once a month and not wait half a year.  Part of it was just laziness, the other part was raising a toddler.  Yes, toddler!  Temper-tantrums, mischief, ouchies and boo-boos, blink and you'll miss it moments, etc.

I sort of knew after the baby came, the blog would slow down.  But it seems that the entirety of Blogland has come to a screeching halt, most likely due to laws changing regarding surrogacy and those of us who have been successful certainly have our hands full.

I think the other big cause of the slow-down has to do with what to say.  We began our blog to share our journey to becoming parents.  We really didn't think beyond that.  I'll try to be a better blogger and get back to monthly updates.

So what's been happening the past six months?  Running about the house, self-feeding,  screaming in public, getting into trouble, two emergency room visits (one for Saffy--nail clipping gone wrong, and one for me--kidney stone), family visits, and traveling.

Saffron's 18 Months!

Right now we're dealing with the little miss pushing chairs up to the kitchen counter and getting into things she shouldn't.  She also climbs up and into everything: stairs, toilets, furniture, you name it.

I'll finish by leaving some pictures and hoping for good things to come in the next few months.

Until next month...

SAFFY BIRTHDAY!

I can't believe how fast one year goes by!  It really feels like yesterday that we were in India, waiting for this little unknown person to make his or her entrance into the world.  We were in the waiting room in Eden Hospital listening closely at the doors when we heard this loud cry in the room next door, then Dr. Shivani called us to say "it's a girl!"  Saffron has brought so much joy into our lives and has made us a real family.
For her cake, I wanted to make her something that represented India and the culture of her egg-donor and surrogate: Ganesh surrounded by marigolds.

Happy New Year! (Almost 11 Months Old!)

2013 was the best of our lives!

The birth of our daughter, spending a month in India, parenthood...it was an amazing journey that went by so very fast!

We have just about a month until Saffron's first birthday and it's just so hard to believe, looking back to the beginning of this blog (March of 2012), how far we've come, how fortunate we are, and to never take any of this for granted.

We wish all of our friends & followers a very happy and prosperous new year.  Happy 2014!

Happy belated X-mas!
Who the hell are these button-eyed gingers at my window?
I love my polar bear!

10 Months

Happy Holidays!

Saffy's a walking maniac...  You know that feeling you get when someone enters the room when you're not looking?  Well we get that all. the. time.  New sounds, babbling, mimicry, finger-crossing (I don't know where she learned that), the transition from bottle to sippy-cup, and a plethora of new and delicious finger-foods are just a few of the new things going on in our home.  Time really flies by!  Meanwhile, someone really hates having to get bundled up just to go outside (we all do, but she hates it more).

Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

TRYTOPHANTASTIC!!!
To our Canadian friends, we hope you enjoyed yours last month; to our Australian friends, according to Wikipedia, you don't have a holiday in November (what's up with that?), so I hope you're able to get a long weekend before the summer holidays; the same goes to our friends in the U.K. but change that to "winter" holidays; and lastly to our Indian friends (we hope you had a happy Diwali earlier this month).

Today is a day for giving thanks, so in our hearts we thank our surrogate, egg donor, and everyone who helped us become a family and to those cheering us along from the sidelines!  In the U.S. we celebrate by eating (overeating) a turkey dinner and watching American football (although  we watch movies instead of sports in this house).  So without further adieu...

GOBBLE-GOBBLE!

9 Months!

Time goes by so quickly!  Our little girl is already beginning to stand on her own: no couch or toys to assist her!  I feel that she may be walking (or at least taking a few steps here and there) by Thanksgiving (Nov. 28th).  Not much is new since Halloween.  This daddy got a cold, then gave it to Saffy - but we're both on the mend.  Till next time...
